2024 Ram 1500 Performance & Capability

The 2024 Ram 1500 is a class leader in the full-size truck segment of the market. This competent vehicle is both a workhorse and a leisure vehicle, making it robust and versatile.

Performance

The Ram 1500 has three engine options available.

Firstly, the 3.6-litre V6 with eTorque Mild Hybrid System is standard on the Tradesman and Big Horn Trims. This motor is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, making 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.

Next is the 5.7-litre HEMI V8, which also has the eTorque Mild Hybrid System. This engine is standard on the Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited and Limited Longhorn trims. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, this engine pushes out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

The Mild Hybrid System is a performance-enhancing and efficiency technology system that provides 90 lb‑ft of supplemental torque at launch when used with the Pentastar V6 engine and 130 lb-ft with the 5.7-litre HEMI V8.

The powerhouse of the 2024 lineup is the supercharged 6.2-litre V8. This engine is standard on the TRX, and with its full-time 4X4, six TRX selectable modes and eight-speed automatic transmission, it makes 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

All of these drive trains are highly capable. The standard V6 has more than enough power for daily driving, commuting to work and as a light-duty work truck, all while maintaining its world-class efficiencies and fuel consumption. For bigger jobs, the 5.7-litre V8 offers exceptional muscle, and for the power-hungry driver, the 6.2-litre V8 is a beast that will launch the Ram 1500 TRX from 0-100 kph in 10.5 seconds.

Capability

The drive trains fitted to the Ram 1500 allow it to carry and tow large loads.

Those trims fitted with the V6 have a maximum towing capacity of 7,710 pounds (3,496 kg) in 4X2 mode or 7,460 pounds (3,383 kg) in 4X4 mode. The HEMI V8 can tow an amazing 12,750 pounds (5,783 kg) in 4X2 mode and 11,410 pounds (5,175 kg) in 4X4 mode, and the TRX with its 6.2-litre V8 can pull 8,100 pounds (3,673 kg).

Besides its impressive towing ability, The Ram 1500 has other technology that makes it a competent vehicle. Managing a trailer, especially in reverse, can be a daunting task, but Ram’s Trailer Reverse Steering Control System is designed to simplify this task. The driver steers the trailer with a trailer knob while the system controls the steering wheel for you, making the entire job much easier.

The V6 Pentastar engine has class-leading fuel-efficiency systems such as variable valve timing (VVT) and revised thermal management.

The crew-cab trims all come with Active‑Level Four Corner Air Suspension. This innovative system kicks in when the vehicle is driven at highway speeds. It will automatically lower the truck’s suspension to help reduce drag and improve its ability to cut through the air for maximum efficiency.

The Ram 1500 comes with an elevated hood that ensures maximum air deflection over the wiper area of the front windscreen, and the specially sculpted roof sends air directly to the rear spoiler. These two innovative aerodynamic features mean that the Ram 1500 has a drag coefficient of 0.375.
